![]() ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH Transnational Turkish Cinema Transnational Turkish Cinema emerged together with other branches of art as a result of Turkish workers who went to work temporarily to Europe and then settled there. The most common usage is the six figure grid reference, employing three digits in each coordinate to determine a 100 m square. A location can be indicated to varying resolutions numerically, usually from two digits in each coordinate (for a 1 km square) through to five (for a 1 m square) in each case the first half of the digits is for the first coordinate and the second half for the other. For example, NH0325 means a 1 km square whose south-west corner is 3 km east and 25 km north from the south-west corner of square NH. Within each square, eastings and northings from the south west corner of the square are given numerically. The central (2° W) meridian is shown in red. These squares are outlined in light grey on the "100km squares" map, with those containing land lettered. įor the second letter, each 500 km square is subdivided into 25 squares of size 100 km by 100 km, each with a letter code from A to Z (again omitting I) starting with A in the north-west corner to Z in the south-east corner. The O square contains a tiny area of North Yorkshire, Beast Cliff at OV 0000, almost all of which lies below mean high tide. Four of these largest squares contain significant land area within Great Britain: S, T, N and H. The first letter of the British National Grid is derived from a larger set of 25 squares of size 500 km by 500 km, labelled A to Z, omitting one letter (I) (refer diagram below), previously used as a military grid. The map shows The Wash and the North Sea, as well as places within the counties of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. Grid letters 100km squares Grid square TF. The Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system (UTM) is used to provide grid references for worldwide locations, and this is the system commonly used for the Channel Islands and Ireland ( since 2001). Grid references are also commonly quoted in other publications and data sources, such as guide books and government planning documents.Ī number of different systems exist that can provide grid references for locations within the British Isles: this article describes the system created solely for Great Britain and its outlying islands (including the Isle of Man) the Irish grid reference system was a similar system created by the Ordnance Survey of Ireland and the Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland for the island of Ireland. ![]() ![]() The Ordnance Survey (OS) devised the national grid reference system, and it is heavily used in its survey data, and in maps based on those surveys, whether published by the Ordnance Survey or by commercial map producers. ![]() ![]() While it would be nice to blame technology for everything, recent studies suggest over half of all workday distractions are self-inflicted - meaning we pull ourselves out of focus. Yet, the constant stream of information pouring in via emails, team chats, and social media notifications demands more and more of our attention. If you’ve ever been interrupted when you were in a flow state, you know how difficult regaining focus can be. Don't worry about the outcome - just take it one pomodoro at a time. It keeps you hyper focused on the one next thing you need to do rather than get overwhelmed by the enormity of what you're taking on. That procrastination-busting strategy is exactly what the pomodoro technique asks you to do: break down your big tasks, projects, or goals into something you only have to do for the next 25 minutes. Doing something small for a short period of time is a whole lot easier to face than trying to take on a big project all at once. Still too hard? Try just sitting down to edit a paragraph. For example, instead of sitting down to write novel, sit down to write for 5 minutes. Luckily, studies have also shown an effective way to break out of the avoidance cycle: shrink whatever it is you're putting off down to a tiny, unintimidating first step. So we turn to Twitter or Netflix instead to boost our mood, if only temporarily. It's uncomfortable to stare down a big task or project - one you may not be sure how to even do or one involves a lot of uncertainty. Rather, we put things off avoid negative feelings. Research has shown the procrastination has little to do laziness or lack of self-control. Here's what makes the method uniquely suited to boosting productivity: Making it easy to just get started The arbitrary silliness of using a tomato as a stand-in for units of time belies the Pomodoro Technique's serious effectiveness when it comes to helping people get things done. The Pomodoro technique is all about getting your mind in the zone to finish your tasks. If the system seems simple, that’s because it is. Keep an "Overlearning" project in Todoist with a list of tasks you can quickly choose from the next time you find yourself with pomodoro time to spare. For example, you could spend the extra time reading up on professional journals or researching networking opportunities. Use the rest of your time for overlearning, or improving skills or scope of knowledge. The rule applies even if you do finish your given task before the timer goes off. Cirillo recommends that you track interruptions (internal or external) as they occur and reflect on how to avoid them in your next session. In the event of an unavoidable disruption, take your five-minute break and start again. A digital task manager like Todoist is a great place for these, but pen and paper will do too. Any ideas, tasks, or requests that come up should be taken note of to come back to later. The pomodoro is an indivisible unit of time and can not be broken, especially not to check incoming emails, team chats, or text messages. For example, "write rent check," "set vet appointment," and "read Pomodoro article" could go together in one session. Any tasks that will take less than one Pomodoro should be combined with other simple tasks. Sticking to this rule will help ensure you make clear progress on your projects. If a task requires more than four pomodoros, it needs to be divided into smaller, actionable steps. The 25-minute work sprints are the core of the method, but a Pomodoro practice also includes three rules for getting the most out of each interval:īreak down complex projects. When your session ends, mark off one pomodoro and record what you completed.Īfter four pomodoros, take a longer, more restorative 15-30 minute break. Set your timer for 25 minutes, and focus on a single task until the timer rings. Though Cirillo went on to write a 130-page book about the method, its biggest strength is its simplicity: Encouraged by the challenge, he found a tomato (pomodoro in Italian) shaped kitchen timer, and the Pomodoro technique was born. Feeling overwhelmed, he asked himself to commit to just 10 minutes of focused study time. ![]() Cirillo was struggling to focus on his studies and complete assignments. Eventually, around the year 42 BBY, a civil war broke out between the pacifist New Mandalorian movement and the martial traditionalists, who wished to maintain their warrior heritage. However, although Mandalore was still under control of traditional Mandalorian warriors, much of the planet's population had become part of a pacifist movement known as the New Mandalorians, led by the young Duchess Satine Kryze of House Kryze, with the traditionalist warriors being forced to use violence to hold on to power. However, the Mandalorians' warrior ways and desire for conquest remained alive, eventually leading to infighting and civil wars. After their defeat, the Mandalorians remained isolated in their sector well into the High Republic Era, not attempting to wage another war on either the Jedi nor the Republic, with which they coexisted through treaties. Unfortunately, the final conflict between the Mandalorian warlords and the Jedi at the planet Mandalore led to a a cataclysm that turned much of its surface into a lifeless white desert, rendering it uninhabitable outside of hermetically sealed dome cities. However, after Vizsla's death, members of his house raided the Jedi Temple during the fall of the Old Republic, stealing the Darksaber and using it to reunify the Mandalorian people, waging war once more on the Jedi Order. Tarre eventually founded House Vizsla, claiming the position of Mand'alor, with the Darksaber becoming a symbol of leadership for both House Vizsla and the Mandalorian people as a whole. ![]() In spite of this, relations between the Mandalorians and the Jedi were not always hostile, as Tarre Vizsla, a human Mandalorian, was inducted into the Jedi Order as a child, creating a lightsaber known as the Darksaber around the year 1050 BBY. ![]() According to legends, many of these conflicts involved a Mand'alor who went by the name of Mandalore the Great. Throughout their history, several prominent groups of Mandalorian warriors came into existence, such as Mandalorian crusaders, rally masters, and Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders, all of whom waged war on the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order. As a result of their warrior culture, the Mandalorians launched several wars of expansion by the time of the Old Republic-era, colonizing nearby worlds such as Krownest, Ordo, and Concord Dawn, leading the sector surrounding their homeworld to be known as Mandalorian Space. Originating around the year 9991 BBY on the planet of Mandalore in the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories, the Mandalorians' way of life revolved around honor and war, being led by a sole ruler known as the Mand'alor, whose Protectors maintained a relative state of peace and unity between their people's warrior clans. Known primarily as highly-effective mercenaries and bounty hunters, Mandalorians have at various points in galactic history played a major role as legendary warriors and conquerors. The Mandalorians were a clan-based culture composed of members from multiple species and bound by a common creed, language, and code. Isn't that our history? For thousands of years, we have been on the verge of extinction, and for thousands of years we have survived." ―Din Djarin There are also car alarms that communicate with a siren under the hood using Bluetooth instead of wires, and smartphone remote control options that let you unlock or remote-start your vehicle using your smartphone. Other applications for Bluetooth include communication between street lights that lets them turn on or off at the same time. The Apple Pencil that works with the iPad uses Bluetooth. Of course, wireless computer keyboards and mice use Bluetooth. For example, controllers for your Xbox or PlayStation use Bluetooth to communicate with the console to transmit button and joystick commands and receive instructions to activate the vibration functions. How Bluetooth is implemented varies by device. While this is true, Bluetooth is actually a low-power, short-range digital communication standard that was created to replace serial cables. Most consumers think Bluetooth is a wireless phone connectivity solution. A Quick Reminder about Bluetooth Terminology There’s even a handy downloadable checklist. You may want to check out ’s 2020 Car Radio Buying Guide for a few more items you might want to check on the display before buying. Retailers such as Westminster Speed and Sound in Maryland have fully interactive displays that allow you to test the features of the radio you are considering. Since the firmware on radios is often updated at least once or twice after being launched, ask the product specialist you are dealing with if everything is up to date. Also check to see how the radio behaves if only one of the two phones is paired. Test to see how the radio responds when a call is received on each device. Cycle the power to the radio to see how the phones reconnect. If support for the simultaneous use of two phones is important, bring both phones and pair them both to the radio. If there’s ever been a message that’s crystal clear to our readers, it’s that you should try the radio you want to buy on a display board at your local specialty mobile enhancement retailer before it’s installed into your vehicle. We are simply establishing a distinction between the way different source units work. Let’s be clear: Two phones are always better than one. The driver may not be able to answer calls on the second device, but can stream from such sources as Pandora, iHeartRadio, Spotify or Apple Music. The second type of “dual phone” connectivity pairs one phone as a hands-free device and a second phone as an audio source to be used for playing music. As such, the system allows the driver to answer calls received on either device by pressing the Send/End button on the radio face or the steering wheel. The first type allows two devices to share the hands-free capabilities of the radio. There are two types of “dual phone support” systems on the market. If you’re making calls using the phone list on the screen, this is a great feature. As an aside, the radio may check the contacts in the phone and automatically download new names and phone numbers right after the connection is established. Depending on the radio, users can set a priority so that a preferred device is always connected first. When the radio boots up, it goes through this list of paired devices and searches for them to re-establish a Bluetooth connection. Pairing your phone to a new car radio is as easy as searching for it in the Bluetooth menu. Years ago, this was a complicated process that involved putting the radio into “paring mode.” Now, the Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) interface makes this process much simpler and eliminates the need to go through complicated steps on the radio. In most cases, this step involves going into the Bluetooth menu of your phone and looking for the radio. The pairing process involves establishing an initial connection between your radio and your phone. Phone Pairing Optionsįor many years, car radios have offered the ability to pair with at as many as five Bluetooth devices. Let’s look at this subject with a little more detail. ![]() With that said, depending on the brand of radio you choose, that’s not necessarily how dual Bluetooth or dual phone support works. At a quick glance, the ability to connect two phones to a single radio seems like a great solution for a family where the parents will be travelling in the vehicle at the same time. In recent years, car radio manufacturers have added simultaneous dual Bluetooth phone support. |
